💔 The "Harder" Sessions ❤️‍🩹
Some sessions are deep and they’re sometimes surrounded by what feels like more “weight” than most sessions.
But the animals themselves don't seem heavy. It’s the humans' circumstances that are. It’s an important distinction.
Because the animals remain remarkably steady.
It's almost as though they're standing on the riverbank saying, "Come this way."
Meanwhile the human may feel like they are in the rapids.
The emotional intensity I experience in some of my sessions, I believe, comes from witnessing these two perspectives at once.
Because love isn't only found in magical synchronicities.
It's also found...
...in the hospice.
...in the courtroom.
...in childhood wounds.
...in the last breath.
...in standing beside someone who believes they've failed.
And the animals are always there.
Not because they remove suffering.
But because they continue meeting us inside suffering.
Additionally, it’s due to the presence I have when I am in this space - the space where I meet the animals…
Because presence is not the absence of feeling.
Presence is the willingness to remain open while feeling.
And I share this because I believe the world doesn't need another collection of polished success stories, the pretty stories with the good endings…
It needs reminders that love remains love when the ending is unfair.
When the court case is unjust.
When childhood was cruel.
When a beloved cat dies in someone's arms.
When the questions never get fully answered.
If my work only celebrated the magical moments, it would feel incomplete.
But because it also sits quietly beside the unbearable moments...
...the joy and the humour become more real.
Because together they reveal the whole landscape of what it means to love another soul. đź’ś
